Four Keys to Happiness

There are four main chemicals in our brains that set the foundation for happiness: Serotonin (the mood booster), Endorphin (the painkiller), Dopamine (the ‘reward’ chemical), and Oxytocin (the ‘love’ chemical). In this post, we will zero-in on how to hack that fantastic mood-stabilizing chemical, Serotonin.

  • Get plenty of sunshine

It may seem simple, but soaking up those morning rays is an important part of our self care. Why? The sun is the ultimate source of vitamin D, which boosts serotonin levels.

  • Limit your sugar intake

While sugar initially gives us that oh-so-craveable feeling of enjoyment, overdoing it can dull our serotonin receptors.

After a period of time, the effects of sugar can be slightly different, and will leave us feeling sluggish and despondent.

  • Exercise, exercise, exercise

Cardio is a great way to boost serotonin levels, keeping us happy, healthy, and fit.

  • Positive thinking

Joyce Meyer once said, “Being negative only makes a journey more difficult. You may be given a cactus, but you don’t have to sit on it.”

  • Speak kindly to yourself
  • Write lists of gratitude
  • Find the silver linings

When we focus on the good, the good gets better.
