The Importance of Balance

Like most of you, I’ve battled with depression, anxiety and stress – tons and tons of stress! What I failed to realize, however, was that I was turning my past experiences into self-fulfilling future prophecies.  My negative self-talk was destroying any chance I had at future success. In fact, I even brought on a disorder known as conversion – a temporary neurological condition born out of stress.

It is important for me to here note, that stress in and of itself cannot lead to something as ominous as conversion, unless it is given the proper environment in which to flourish. This ‘environment’ is one of negativity, panic, and shock. It does, however, highlight the power of the brain.

“Your brain is a supercomputer, and your self-talk is the program it will run.”

Jim Kwik

Through the process of overcoming my disorder, I learned to become a victor rather than a victim. I learned to control my thinking, rather than letting it control me. Most importantly, I learned the significance of having balance in my life.

Balance (Physical):

  • Hobbies
  • Friendships
  • Recreation
  • Exercise
  • Nutrition

Balance (Mental):

  • Flexible Mindset (eliminate all-or-nothing thinking)
  • Positive Self-Talk
  • Morning Sun (at least 20 minutes daily)
  • Uplifting playlists
  • Deep breathing
Bonus:
Did you know that acts of kindness can heighten endorphin, dopamine, and serotonin levels? It’s a 3-for-1 deal!
