Socialization – The Ultimate Therapy

It was during one of my socially anxious periods that I began to withdraw from the company of others. I isolated to the tipping point of my mental health, but it wasn’t until I sought the friendship of others that I truly began to break free of self-placed restrictions and negative thought patterns. For me, this newfound human interaction came in the form of a few poker players and a deck of cards.

Socialization, though the word looks different to each and every one of us, is the ultimate form of therapy. Why? Social interactions are proven to be effective in staving off feelings of loneliness and depression.

Never underestimate the power of a hug. Whether giving your friend, your pet, or even yourself a hug, you are raising oxytocin levels and releasing endorphins in your brain. Oxytocin fosters a sense of well-being, reducing stress and thereby strengthening your immune system!
