From Stressed to Blessed: My Story

Man, was C.S. Lewis right when he said, “It’s not the load that weighs you down, it’s the way you carry it.”  The monstrosity of the load I’d been carting around – known to some as the infamous year 2020 – was bursting with financial troubles, political woes, and overall dysfunction.  With absolutely no discretion whatsoever, I began to not only succumb to my antagonistic stressors, but I began to feed them as well.  I was drowning in a sea of negativity.  Then, in April of 2021, I developed a little something called conversion disorder.  This disorder – often triggered by extreme shock or stress – is a mental health condition that affects the nervous system.  I went from working full time to wheelchair-bound overnight.

Now, this isn’t one of those depressing, woe-is-me stories with a less-than-euphoric ending.  In short, I recovered fully, discovered a new appreciation for the phrase, ‘self care,’ and learned an incredible amount about the brain (and it’s sometimes autonomous decisions).  This blog, which I hope you will consider as written by a friend, combines all of my mental health findings into one simple resource.
